When you want things to slow down and soften, take some deep breaths and widen back. Consciously disconnect. Spirit’s letting us know we’ll benefit by helping today. We’ve all been in a situation at some point when we were very grateful that someone stepped in to help us. Reflecting on that brings up our willingness, perhaps even desire, to have the roles reversed such that we get to be the ones helping. It’s nice to be able to reciprocate or pay forward by helping in some way.

We’ve all been there – facing a challenge and deeply appreciating the intervention of a kind soul. An experience like this highlights the inherent fulfillment that comes from helping others. It’s more than just reciprocating; it’s about setting a positive ripple effect in motion.

I’ve always found it gratifying to help or in some way to be in service to another. If there’s a way that I can, I do. But I’ve also learned not to assume that they want help because not everyone does. So these days I ask first.

One of the teachings I learned at the Berkeley Psychic Institute was that the challenges we face in life are our opportunities to evolve. If you step in and solve someone else’s problem for them, you take away their opportunity for growth. However, teaching someone how to solve their problem is different from solving their problem for them. As long as they learn the lesson, it’s the highest form of help. It’s akin to handing someone a fish versus teaching them how to fish.

Helping Yourself: Unearthing Your Strength

You may feel helpless in some part of your life, but even in your helplessness, there’s sure to be some way you can help another. In fact, by looking for ways that you can be in service to another, you’d find that you’re not as helpless as you thought. When you shift your attention away from the lack in your life by sharing your gifts and talents, your lack will lessen and your gifts and talents will grow. It just may be that by helping another you help yourself even more. That act of helping another takes you from helpless to helpful! That’s a big shift in energy!

As I was pondering all the ways we could utilize helping in our lives an interesting perspective surfaced. I talk often of the fact that we’re Spirit having a human experience. We are both Spirit and human at the same time, it’s just that we associate with our human nature far more than our Divine nature. So practice helping yourself next time you find yourself in need.

Shift to your Higher Self’s perspective. Imagine being Spirit, unlimited, all knowing, all powerful, everywhere present Spirit, and, like a loving mother would do, comfort, reassure, and love yourself. Suggest and share all the ideas and ways that the solution could come to be. Brainstorm solutions, write them down, and choose the most inspired ones to take action on.

Choosing Consciously to Shape Your Reality

Spirit’s bringing our awareness to the power of choosing consciously today. You’re making choices all day long, every day. You choose what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, what to say or not say, etc. Are they conscious choices?

Unconscious Choices, Unintended Consequences

But if you’re like most people, most of the choosing you do is unconscious. You choose out of habit, do what’s easy, or what you’re familiar with. There are consequences to all of our choices, the big and little ones. In fact, it’s the little ones that we make on a repeated basis that accumulate over time into unpleasant consequences.

I recall an interaction with one of my old neighbors. He shared that he’d just been at his doctor’s office for an appointment and found out that he was borderline diabetic. Without judging or suggesting, I asked, “Well, is that something that could be controlled by diet?” and his immediate response was, “I’m NOT giving up my Diet Dr. Pepper!”

The Price of Unconscious Choices

So, alrighty then, I got the answer and there was nothing more for me to say. He moved shortly thereafter so I don’t know if he ever got past his initial resistance and made the changes he clearly knew he should make. But this is actually a very typical reaction by many. It’s not until forced with an ultimatum, the suffering has become unbearable, or they’re facing death that they choose consciouly to make the changes they should have made long ago.

Choosing Consciously : Empowering Even in Difficult Times

You always have the power of choice. You may think there’s no other options, but that’s not true. Even when your back is against the wall you get to choose your attitude in the moment. By bringing your awareness to the moment, you have the option of choosing consciously to do something willingly or begrudgingly.

Choose to Hand Over the Burden to Spirit

By the way, I don’t recommend you choose the latter option. Instead, let me suggest that you make the conscious choice to hand the burden over to Spirit. Ask Spirit to guide you as you do this thing you don’t want to do but feel you must. There are always more possibilities than your limited human nature mind can conjure up. Handing over the burden to Spirit will open the doors for Spirit to drop in more ideas and options. Remember, in every given moment you get to choose on what and how you focus your attention.

The Magic of Focused Attention

My guess is that you can probably understand how this is likely true. But that doesn’t mean you understand the power of knowing this. Here’s what I’m getting at: In any given moment whatever is happening in the world or in your life is simply what is happening. It’s neither good nor bad. It simply is what is. But your judgment of it, my friend, the label that you put on it (something you choose), that determines how you experience it.

Mistakes: Part of a Divine Plan?

I’ve come to understand that God has Its hands in everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly. And that includes the mistakes I make. That’s a hard one to grasp, but how can it be any other way? God is everywhere at once, all knowing, and all powerful. God is All-That-Is and is present in and loves everyone and everything. So there must be a purpose for the horrible things that happen, including the mistakes I make.

Learning from Mistakes: Finding the Silver Lining

Though we’re often not aware and can’t see it in the moment, there’s always something to be gained from every experience. Who knows? It could leave you or someone else, unbeknownst to you, in a better position in the future. Sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better. Do your best to consciously choose to learn all you can from your mistakes so you don’t wind up making the same one again.

Shifting Perspective: From Fear to Grace

I have to remind myself all the time to suspend my judgment and seek the higher and long range perspective of Spirit. I know I get to choose how I view things. I can choose to focus on the horror of what I experience or I can choose to start looking for the good that will come from it. This doesn’t mean that I can get to this perspective right away in every challenge. But with time I do and that’s when things begin to change for the better.

Focus: The Secret Weapon of Your Mind

I’ve learned the hard way that focusing on what I consider bad and continuing to view it as bad will generate a negative energetic state. I know that, whether I’ve consciously chosen it or not, any negative state separates me from my Infinite nature, Spirit. I suffer as a result of this mental separation because it blocks the ease and grace of Spirit moving through me.

Choosing Peace: From Dis-Ease to Well-being

I know this blockage stops the flow of ideas (the first currency of the Universe). I also know that by allowing this mentally created dis-ease to dominate for long, I will eventually experience disease(s) in my body. So I do my best to make a conscious choice to focus on whatever idea will bring me back to a state that allows ease and grace to flow.

Turning the Other Cheek: A Path to Peace

You can do the same thing too, my friend. It’s simply a matter of you choosing consciously to “turn the other cheek.” This is not so you can be slapped on the other cheek. Far from it. This is so that you can focus in a new direction, onto a new thought and vision that brings you peace. This peace will lead you to a future experience you’d prefer.

Surrender and Trust: Finding Strength in the Divine

There are times when all I can do is to think of God and let myself sink into the feeling of being held by that Love. I know that God is with me all the time and Its Love and power is far greater than my human nature thinking. This always does the trick for me, when I remember to do it.

I have to admit that I, just like you, are human. And sometimes I get stuck in my frustrations and suffering for longer than I’d like. However, it’s just a matter time before I bring my awareness to the moment and begin consciously choosing to align once again with love and God.

Remember, Spirit is having us focus on choosing consciously today and it must be for a reason. One thing is for sure, you have the power when you choose consciouly. You have the power to choose to make today be a turning point day in your life. What’s not working in your life? In what part of your life would you benefit by choosing consciously to change? What would you love in your life?

Each thought you think sends an electrical signal through your body. Your body responds with a magnetic impulse you feel as your emotions. Some thoughts are highly charged, perhaps triggering a trauma from your past, and generate an alarming response. This is a clear demonstration of the power of your thinking to generate your energetic state and even change your body’s physiology instantaneously.

This cuts you off from your Highest and Best Self where you have easy access to solutions and answers.

The Simple Fix: Reconnecting with Spirit

And what do you do when this happens? There’s a simple fix, my friend. You start by recognizing that you’ve lost connection with your Higher Self and have let your finite mind dominate. Next, take a deep breath in through your nose and let it out slowly through a small opening in your mouth. As you do, direct your attention to your heart and tune into Spirit. Remind yourself that your true nature is Divine, it’s not of this world and is not limited by your perceptions.

As you bring your energy to your heart you bring your awareness to the present moment, to the NOW, where there are no issues, stress, or tension. It’s just you and your breath, the Infinite. Allow yourself to rest in and be held by this Love that is far greater than your or anyone else’s thinking could ever be. And remember, you welcome the best of life when you experience heartfulness and allow it to run your day.
